Capturing the Light is a new theatre production written and performed by Isle of Lewis singer songwriter Elsa McTaggart. It tells the extraordinary story of Elsa’s great grandfather William McTaggart, who grew up as the fifth child of Gaelic speaking Kintyre crofters to become one of Scotland’s most celebrated artists.

The show is directed by Laura Cameron-Lewis, with production design by Robbie Thomson. Robbie and Laura previously worked together on sruth-mara’s 2024 show Precious Cargo.

The show will premiere at An Lanntair in June 2026 followed by an Edinburgh Fringe run as part of the prestigious Made in Scotland showcase.

Produced by sruth-mara in association with An Lanntair.
